You can make out a disparity in his face, too – one of his eyes is a bright, unmitigated white.

He seems to notice you stare, and you think you can see something like a smile splitting across his features.

“Healing already, eh? Amazing, isn’t it? That wild potential? You’re only gifted in such myriad ways because of your father’s works. Adaptation to outward stimulus, mutation against harm, against disease… it was his hope that everyone could enjoy that kind of security.” He lifts his cane momentarily, and cocks his head. “That said, however, I’m rather more concerned with the unintended consequences of his work. The furnace roaring somewhere further on into the facility can’t have been active in years…

The pair at the door are wearing some kind of bodysuits. You think you see sort of… plates… covering them, like muscles overlapping their skin. They stand in still, unquestioning silence. As you try to discern more of their features, the third one returns from the other room, carrying with her an overstuffed leather bag. You think they’re all the same girl.

“Oh! Fantastic!” Joseph claps his hands together, his fingers knotting almost as if in prayer. “Just set those down on my workspace, would you?”
