    Clangeddin's hammer!!! TG QUEST?!

    Last thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/17481740/

When last we left our intrepid band, they had managed to defeat the Echo of Queen Zeal and the Shard of the Ebon Night after a terrible struggle that left them with heavy casualties once more. From the ruins of the destroyed Mammon Machine, a rift in space time began to grow, devouring the Echo of Zeal. But all was not lost. The Echoes of the three sages, Data, Engineer, and Egon supervise the rest of the survivors in a desperate attempt to get the newly materialized Blackbird ready for a flight it was not meant for.

Well it seems them Transpace Guard boys have got themselves in another pickle. Let's see if they can get out of it.

Okay, first, make sure that all of the bodies of the slain were recovered. We'll not leave them behind in a collapsing time-echo.

Second, Medic is to assist the Knights in retrieving their dead comrades' geneseed for return to their Chapter.

Finally, have Tosh, Char, the Aurors and Gondegal get their rendition of a Navigator ready.

Oh, and ask the Gurus if they could use our Reality Emitters to help shield the Blackbird.
And finally, do they need to be anchored now? And if so, to what?

Stabilise Melchior, Balthazar and Gaspar. If we can get them intact, it'd be worth the unfortunate losses we experienced here.
If they must be bound to objects, do so.
If they must be bound to people, then the Aurors are the most likely candidates.

Pilot the Blackbird towards Cheryl. Char, being both newtype and a pilot, is best suited to this role.

Let's keep moving and see where we land.

They have the option of being anchored to a person or an object. We didn't get an answer from the Gurus yet.

It's been recommended that if they do go for persons, that they be anchored to Egon and Data, since they usually stay safe in orbit.

The Gurus have been anchored to an Auror each for now. They'll be transferred to something more permanent later.

"Good idea on the reality emitters, I didn't think of that," Melchoir says, nodding. "They could indeed."

The next hour is full of hustle and bustle as people load the ship up with the mechs, crew, and ground teams. The VFs and Shiki stand outside, ready to follow the ship. In the distance the hole in reality has consumed the Palace and the mountain it was built on. It seems slowly crawling towards the city now. VF pilots who survived the crashing of their planes now are at the massive aircraft's controls, along with the sages.

"Sir!" Darius reports. "All our men, living or dead are off the field. Everything is loaded and secured. Engineer is requesting permission to start the main engines..." Darius pauses. "The pilots say this thing, 'ain't no VF', but they can manage. They want to know when to begin take off."

"All right..." Char grumbles as he docks the Hyaku Shiki in the Blackbird's cavernous bays. He immediately heads up to the bridge, pausing only for a moment. "This thing reminds me a lot of the Gaw..."

In the distance the hole grows. Then you give the signal for launch. The Blackbird lurches as its engines kick in, the craft detaching from the dock and slowly gaining speed as its attendant VFs buzz around it. The pilots begin to swing it around, and through the bridge window you see the hole in Zeal, a yawning abyss of chaotic energies swirling before you.

"Hang on," the pilot drawls as he flips a few switches and lets his hand rest on the handle. "This is about to get bumpy."

You dive into the hole, the pilot giving off a loud "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-HAAAAAAAAAAAAW!"

The VFs follow you in as behind you the Kingdom of Zeal shrinks to nothing. All around you is lightning and ribbons of multicolored energy. The ship shakes as these chaotic waves and bolts crash against it, bombard it, but your reality emitters provide enough interference that they do not breach hull integrity. You cannot see anything after a while. Your pilots cannot see anything. Then...

"Turn. Here. Now," Char commands. "Left!"

The pilot complies, jerking the craft to the left. A few minutes passes before Tosh speaks.

"Bank hard down, mon. No ground here, ain't gonna crash. Now. Do it NOW!"

"I think I've got something! Keep going in this direction!" an Auror excitedly says as the Observer gives off a series of beeps and tones. VP-99 interjects.

"The Observer units is detecting trace signatures of transpace drives along the northern energy current. Recommend adjust course twelve degrees."

"...that's right. Do it," Char commands. The pilot complies. "We're getting close."

"Almost there, mon..." Tosh nods he narrows his eyes. "Now... got to reach out to da little gurl. Let her know we're here..."

Char closes his eyes and Tosh does the same. Gondegal walks into Char, the newtype suddenly infused with a ghostly glow as the Aurors point their wands at Tosh and murmur chants.

Suddenly a bright flash rips through the maelstrom in front of you as a breach tears itself open, revealing a star-field beyond, and a small fleet of familiar ships...

Before we leave, I'd like to check whether Silent Hill is still standing, and whether all the other places are deserted.

There's also one other thing I'd like to do:
Have Mouse and Data hack this world's interwebs, and make a spam email or botnet that advertises a simple message:
"Seen paranormal stuff in Tokyo, Pennsylvania, or Transylvania, and want to fight against it? Send details of what you witnessed, along with your resumes to tsg_recruiting@gmail.com"
And we have Holtz send a team to make a Base on this world and monitor that e-mail address.

Fuck. Can we even return them at this point? Cheryl is a near god level psychic that we FULLY unlocked and Douglas has a persona. I know we can end the contract, but the real issue is Cheryl. If we end up wiping her memories, we essentially will be wiping all the controls and safeguards to the powers she has inside of her. I don't know how well that will go for her. Oh well, if she chooses to stay we will do what we can to make it happen safely.

Your ships fall into formation and make the transpace jump...

Arrival at base will be covered tommorrow, I have to sleep now. Before I do...

    EXPERIENCE!

By surviving the horrors the Ebon Night set against you, some of your squads have managed to reach a new level of combat skill. Some of your troops and heroes that have been with you since the beginning have gained additional benefits.

Elaine has been promoted to Hero and the White Mage unit dissolved.
VP-99 has been upgraded to a Hero unit.
Your Sandmen are now Veteran Sandmen.
Your Mobile Infantry are now Veteran Mobile Infantry.
Your Delta Green Squad is now a Veteran Delta Green Squad.
Your Auror team is now a Veteran Auror team.
Psion Squad increases to Level 9!
Abjurer Squad increases to Level 10!
SCP team experience cancels out reinforcement's green level.
UNIT team experience cancels out incoming reinforcement's green level.
Spike can learn a new skill!
Tosh can learn a new skill!
Egon can learn a new skill!
Your Tomahawk and VF Pilots are now Veterans.

As a side note, congratulations on defeating one of the harder sections of the quest AND getting more or less the best ending from it.

    VP-98 isn't quite there yet.
The Observer cannot be made a hero. Its programming does not enable such rapid self-learning behaviors.
When a squad earns the Veteran title, all reinforcements to it will either be veterans or have a low enough percentage of rookies to be negligible until they are 'trained' by the other squad members.

The UNIT and SCP teams would've been Veterans, but they went under half-strength, meaning the majority would be rookies. Instead of getting the veteran title then, their benefit is simply that the surviving members are experienced enough to lead the new recruits, negating 'green' penalties. (IE: No X-COM Rookie Syndrome.)

    >Why.jpg

So many good arguments were given against it, whilst the counter arguments amounted to Philemon is a good guy and wouldn't turn on us, despite it explicitly having being said he would use the knowledge he gained against us if he deemed it necessary and that he could not guarantee he would keep it to himself.

    Hero Skills:

    >Spike

Karma's a bitch - Whenever Spike or friendly forces suffer a critical failure, enemy units also suffer in the wake of it (Example: Algaphotis-A has no effect on Ebon Night! Ebon Night tail whips Douglas and Spike away and takes in a deep breath.... but inhales too quickly and starts coughing uncontrollably, and accidentally whips himself in the eyes with his tail!). In addition, all rolls are increased by a small, but not insignificant amounts.

    > Possible Elaine traits:

Tranquil Resolve - Elaine has been subject to the horrors of the Ebon Night, but persevered and saw the dawn that followed. Friendly units within a certain range of Elaine are less affected by harmful mind-altering effects, and spells cast by nearby friendly casters (including Elaine) cost less resources to cast. She also acts as a good foil for Lyla.

Cooperative caster - Following Gondegal's example, Elaine can now imbue other friendly forces' spells and attacks with white magic to create an enhanced effect. Also, Elaine is generally easy to get along with and is a good co-worker.

Resurrect - Spells cast by Elaine that restore life to dead people (i.e. Raise, Re-Raise) now function even if there's very little left of the person to resurrect. In addition, Elaine can attempt to Raise a person beyond the normal time limit for Raise.

Divine Whisper - Any spells cast by Elaine on friendly targets now leave a residual healing effect (haste, shell, reraise, cure, esuna, etc), that also reduces the effects of shadowy/evil attacks.

The time for complaining about it is long past; I don't like it either but I'm not going to clutter up a thread complaining about it.

As for putting Douglas in isolation, we would have already restricted his access to the bridge and other sensitive areas, as that's what we decided to do.

    Here's the details:

Sorry about the non-contact for two weeks. When we arrived at the sector, it had been heavily warped by a Dark Power of Ravenloft, naming himself "Ebon Night". Our Farseers made it clear that in no uncertain terms that if we left before the job was done, Ebon Night would have had free reign over that sector and would've spread across into other sectors with little resistance.

Ebon Night was already a refugee, of sorts. When his Ravenloft (the OLD Ravenloft, not the new one) was destroyed by an army of vengeful deities, he escaped to the sector we just visited and expended nearly all of his power seeding a various assortment of horrors there. These horrors included Silent Hill, Azalin partnered up with Albert Wesker, Dracula from the Castlevania canon, Strahd von Zarovich from Ravenloft, Godhand Femto/Griffith partnered up with that one manifestation of evil from one of the Persona canons and the Idea of Evil from Berserk. Yes, it was as bad as it sounded.

We managed to deal with the horrors with the help of Cheryl Sutherland and Douglas from the Silent Hill canon, the protagonists from the Persona canon (Persona 4, I think?), Guts from the Berserk canon, and Gondegal the Paladin from Ravenloft. The Farseers and X-com specialists were required to awaken Cheryl's godlike powers in order to prepare us for the battle with Ebon Night. We also contracted Philemon to give Douglas a Persona. The details of this contract are in the report that's undoubtedly making its way to you now.

    (cont).

    >>17493588

Long story short, we confronted Ebon Night at a World Pillar at Antarctica after defeating his horrors. We took grevious losses, but with the help of Cheryl and the valiant sacrifices of many of our troops, we managed to blast him to hell using the energies of World Pillar merged with Adam (yes, from Evangelion). All of our troops and the command staff were then thrown into a time-echo version of the Kingdom of Zeal, where we recruited these time-echo versions of the Three Gurus. We defeated Queen Zeal and the dying remnants of Ebon Night only through more sacrifice on the part of our troops, and managed to repair an antiquated time-lost construct ship and somehow make it spaceworthy. We then breached the time-echo's barriers, and met up with the rest of our fleet. Cheryl managed to fully harness the power of the Third Impact caused by the Adam/World Pillar to blast Ebon Night to hell and to save us from the effects of it, all without causing the World we were saving to turn into a giant tin of Tang Orange Drink.

That's pretty much the jist of it. The report will be far more detailed. We've taken heavy casualties, and Star-Lord will have to be taken to a reconstruction tank to recover from his not-quite-death due to the RED we gave him. We would also like to perform a military funerals or the appropriate last rites for the troops that we lost in this mission. Or perhaps see if there are some resurrection specialists on staff in the base that could help us out in recovering those men.

Also, we're not certain... but we *think* that the SUE in question may be a vampirized Bella from Twilight. She is utterly non-responsive to any stimulus and somewhat... bloated... due to extensive magical and scientific experiments carried out on her by Wesker/Azalin. She seems to be excreting some sort of special serum. We've festooned her containment tank with reality emitters, and festooned those festoons with more festoons of reality emitters.

Holtz perks up. "But our base over the Mojave Wastes... Not only have they managed to send over quite a few more suits of powered armor to us, which should handle equipping your reinforcements... well, care to take a guess what else they managed?"

Main suggestion at the time was for Gloval and the Bridge Bunnies, classic and solid bridge crew experienced with commanding a very large ship full of weapons and people.

The idea was that by returning their geneseeds, that we can keep the price of Knight Inductor recruits from increasing.
Also, by holding one back and analyzing it, making it into a Research Project, we can create more geneseed copies that we can use as currency with the Chapter.

He completely initial reconnaissance of that north most lynchpin, the black blob. He says the distortion itself isn't that bad, just has a large area of effect because it's tapping into a Yggdrasil world tree. It's got five lesser to middling power S.U.E.s there, who seem to have used the world tree to merge a WH40K 'verse with a few others to create a sort of mish-ma... don't look at me like that, this one isn't as bad as the others. The borders are mainly intact between the worlds, its just that there are stable portals between them, and their history and cosmology have been sort of muddled. Anyway, Yellowman says that the simplest way to fix things would just be to kill the five S.U.E.s, but if you can't manage that, there might be a way to 'fix' the world tree."

    Here's the Stiletto description:

    >.The Stiletto was a marvel of engineering, designed and built within the first twenty years since the ascendance of the gods as a test bed for the merging of Imperial, Eldar, Chaotic, and Angelic technologies and systems. While no where near as cobbled together as say the construction of the Prometheus by the Tau’ri in a neighbouring universe, to a certain extent the only thing holding the damn thing together was a concerted, active raping of the laws of physics by various daemons and a bit of the WAAAGH inherited from Gork and Mork. It was, at the moment, an unsightly blend of adamantium, wraithbone, and biological components, at least to the sensibilities of the builders. Outsiders with no knowledge of what an ugly kludge it was might be fooled though.

    >> it was still a little over a kilometre and a half long and approximately two hundred metres wide, although the armoured, triangular bow of the ship was a bit wider than the rest of the ship.

The Psions kind of were important though, in Transylvania they prevented Dracula from using his teleports during the bossfight, and they were also helpful during the Strahd fight.
Then there's the fact that they were part of the psionic matrix at the World Pillar.
The Psions are NOT a front-line combat unit.
They're a support unit, and anyone that uses them as front-liners is an idiot that deserves to be shot.

As for UNIT, we haven't faced technologically sophisticated enemies much, but keep in mind that Mouse was promoted from among their ranks. They're still useful.

    Copypasted details of clear winners:

Spike: "How many pints of blood do you have?"
Constant trauma has proven him to be practically impossible to kill. Wounds that should outright splatter another man all over the room, leave Spike merely weakened and bleeding.

    Tosh: "Da spirits say"
Tosh can telepathically talk and listen to a wider variety of things. Gods, shoggoths, the spirits of a place, the spirits of an item, perhaps even Magic itself if the setting allows it

Egon: "Tell Him About the Twinkie"
Already well versed in the sciences and paranormal, Egon quickly picks up on varying versions of both from various Canons, both integrating new knowledge into his work and able to explain it in concepts that his fellows can understand.

    Cherly: "Silent Survivor"
Her constant struggles with Silent Hill and her psychic powers have left her with an amazing intuition. Due to this, she often knows the direction attacks are coming from before they occur and is able to use her powers to prevent her friends from dying.

Douglas: "I already lost my son"
When his friends are under threat, or in a state of fear and panic, the combat strength of Douglas and his Persona increase proportional to the level of threat and fear
    "Grinding social links"
Douglas is exceptionally good at making friends, by sympathising with people's plights and struggles.
    "Old Detective"
Douglas has been a detective and then a PI for a long time, he's good at picking up on clues, and plying people for information.

Elaine can heal sanity loss, can heal damage dealt to machines, can patch holes in physical structures, and even heal some reality distortions, much in the same way that she heals flesh.

    VP-99: "The Path Less Traveled"
VP-99 is particularly adept at finding hidden passages and unused paths, or otherwise finding ways around that have the least amount of traffic.

Spike: "How many pints of blood do you have?" - Constant trauma has proven him to be practically impossible to kill. Wounds that should outright splatter another man all over the room, leave Spike merely weakened and bleeding, out of the fight but alive. He remains stable after even the most horrific wounds and can recover with proper medical treatment, generally passing out sometime after most people would be passing on.

Tosh: "Da spirits say" - Tosh can telepathically talk and listen to a wider variety of things. Gods, shoggoths, the spirits of a place, the spirits of an item, perhaps even Magic itself if the setting allows it.

Egon: "Tell Him About the Twinkie" - Already well versed in the sciences and paranormal, Egon quickly picks up on varying versions of both from various Canons, both integrating new knowledge into his work and able to explain it in concepts that his fellows can understand.

    Douglas:
"I already lost my son" - When his friends are under threat, or in a state of fear and panic, the combat strength of Douglas and his Persona increase proportional to the level of threat and/or fear.
"Old Detective" - Douglas has been a detective and then a PI for a long time, he's good at picking up on clues, and plying people for information. (Overlaps with Social links)

    Elaine: Vote came down to:
"Remembrance of the Fallen" & "Make it in Time"
Almost was "Remembrance of the Fallen" and "Aura of Light" but a couple more votes for the above came in.

As it is, we can postpone the Von Luckners, and the RVF-25 + conversion packs to VF-25G for the next round after we hit a grey world or something.

The Gavs would really help with a lot.

Maybe we end up researching some sensor tech that could beat what the RVF-25 has to offer (and then mount it as upgrades).

We are currently working on Aglaphotis and Offensive Reality Emitters.
Also, adding "Battletech armor plating" and "Personal shields" to the list of things to reverse engineer and later produce.

Our Manufacturing corps can make stuff that we know how to build. That includes pretty much anything from X-com, Schlock, Ghostbusters, and the lower end of Federation tech, as we have Egon, Data, X-commies and Gavs on our R&D team by default.

For instance: We could build Personal armor and Laser rifles.
We could build Personal cloaks from X-com Apocalypse.
We could build Ghost traps and Proton packs.
And we don't need to reverse-engineer Nanite bags, we have Gavs and Lazkowicz, they already know how to make them.

I don't know if we got the Star Trek industrial replicator or the Schlockverse fabber, but we did get the Antaeus.

I want to research, if possible, a form of Power armor and a form of powerful infantry weapon - be it a Black hole rifle, a fallout Plasma rifle, a SMAC Chaos laser, the Mobile Infantry's weapons, or anything else powerful.

Why? Because that'll give our Engineers something to do - making weapons and armor for our ground troops.

Our Magic Manufacturers can get started on making Ethers, or they can start Enchanting various equipment - be they ship systems, or the weapons and armor of our ground troops.

Magic research should start looking into ways to combat Warhammer 40k's Warp and Chaos, and ways to resist Light and Dark-based attacks, as these are preferentially used by S.U.E.s over other types of attacks.

If our Engineers work on materials science, could they find a way to combine the best qualities of Federation steel, Alien alloys, Battletech armor, and ... whatever Schlock Mercenary has?
If so, it might be worth doing that before we leave base, so TG Requisitions now knows how to make improved armor.
Hand over our Defensive Reality Emitter research to Holtz, too. It might be worth some Dosh.

Actually, for magic research, I wanted Advanced Aglaophotis, and Cartridge-based wand spellcasting.
Like, I want a staff or wand that you lock a magazine into, and when Lyla casts Holy through it, instead of consuming her MP, it uses up a cartridge from the magazine.
As a way of extending how long the White Mages can keep casting.
Or the same for the Aurors, except for them it amplifies their spells, or let's them cast multiple spells at once.

I have a theory on that.
Considering the inter-canon meta nature of things, we need to build our own personal canon for a lot of this stuff to work for us across worlds. HQ pays for this research material to add to their libraries to combine the various personal canon accounts to the point that they are powerful enough to function everywhere no matter who builds/uses it.

They'd colonise the Abyss, Kicking Asmodeus, Orcus, and Demogorgon in the balls as they do so.

Well the only other thing I can think of would be that Ultimate Evil whatever from the Wheel of Time series.

    Hm, so that is close?
I'm drawing a blank, maybe it's a canon I'm unfamiliar with. I'll feel _really_ dumb when it turns out it was something I should have known.

Don't be stupid. It's obviously Tiamat. Or Deathwing. Or Azaldon.

OP, lets play a game. When we get close to the connection go "Warmer, you blathering idiots". When we guess something else entirely, just "Colder, numbnuts". Followed by a swift kick to the nuts.

See? Now we have a full feedback loop.

    That being said...
Does it have something to do with the dragon form or just Ebon Night in general? There was so much shit going on in the last world, it will be hard to pin down one connection.

That's kinda the problem. We have a shitton of dragon BBEG's to choose from.

OP is probably just making shit up so that we seem dumb. Ebon Night is an original character and he was a good original character.

Only other guess my google fu supplements my knowledge with is the Ebon Dragon from Exalted..
Which looks like a fair match..

Yes, it's so much clearer now.
Dark Power + Ebon Dragon = Ebon Night.
    Fuck, there it is.

Of course. That explains the 'rolled 5=5' we kept getting.

Yes, thank you. I thought people would get it the first time when I revealed him as, "a giant Ebon Dragon." Or the comment about his 'perfect defense'. Or his arch foe in the lore being a sun deity of perfection and valor.

Anyway, it's probably not the same being, but the coincidences are odd.

Sadly, I only stumbled on it by going 'Hmm, Ebon Night.. Void Dragon is close.. Let's put Ebon Dragon into Google and see what comes up.'
Exalted has always sounded interesting, but haven't had the opportunity to play.

    Ah well.
    See ya tomorrow.
At least the major requisitions arguments will die down for a bit now that that is settled.
Now we can argue about research and downtime activities!

Also, how did you decide on the skills? I know we had it settled in the planning thread when you asked for it, but someone came into this thread counting things wrong and recounting the vote on top of the discussion.
